To ensure the optimal integration of its global business processes, Torus, the global specialty insurer, has appointed Premal Mehta as Country Manager for its office in India. In this new role, Mr. Mehta will run the day to day operations from Torus’s India office and will liaise with Torus’s teams worldwide. He will report to New Jersey-based Global Head of Business Operations, John Williams.
Mr. Mehta brings to Torus over 17 years of experience in setting-up & running knowledge based companies out of India that serve international clients and operate in geographically dispersed locations. In January 1992, he co-founded RMSI, a leading provider of Geo-Spatial solutions, Data engineering, Application software and Risk Management Services. He also ran Dinesh Mehta Associates Pvt. Ltd., a 40 person engineering consultancy firm providing services to several leading Indian corporations in a wide range of Industry segments.
Mr. Mehta holds an MBA (Finance) from NTU, Singapore, a Master of Science in Civil-Structural Engineering from Stanford University, U.S.A and a Bachelors in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
Commenting on Mr. Mehta’s arrival at Torus, John William’s said: “Premal’s extensive experience building up companies in India to work with international teams will be invaluable to Torus as we develop a scalable global growth model. As a result the teams in India will be tightly integrated within Torus’s global business processes, thereby helping clients manage risk more effectively.”
Torus, the global specialty insurer, is further diversifying its product offerings with the appointment of Simon Urry to the position of Senior Casualty Underwriter, with immediate effect. Mr. Urry, who has over 30 years experience in liability insurance, joins Torus’ Offshore Energy team in London, reporting to Head of Global Offshore Energy, David Message. He will also work closely with Torus’ Head of Global Casualty, David Perez, who is based in Bermuda.
Mr. Urry joins Torus from Markel International where he led the Global Marine and Energy Liability account of the company’s Lloyd’s syndicate following Markel’s purchase of Octavian in 1999. He has also worked at Aon Group Limited Energy and C.E Heath, now Heath Lambert.
Commenting on Mr. Urry’s appointment, David Message said: “Simon is a highly experienced liability underwriter and has a proven track record of building a successful and profitable international account from scratch. He will be an invaluable asset.”
