Torus Strengthens US Property and Renewable & Select Energy Teams with Senior Appointments

Torus, the global specialty insurer, today announced the appointment of two senior executives to its Americas team. Gerald Dupre has joined as Senior Vice President, Head of Property and Mark Mikulak as Senior Vice President, Head of Renewable & Select Energy.

Both Mr. Dupre and Mr. Mikulak report directly to Naveen Anand, Chief Executive, Torus Americas. Mr. Mikulak is based in Torus’ Jersey City office. Mr. Dupre is based across Torus’ Jersey City and Atlanta offices.

Gerald Dupre

In his new role Mr. Dupre is responsible for driving profitable growth for Torus Americas’ Property practice, bringing a wealth of industry experience to Torus and extensive knowledge of both retail and wholesale brokers in the Property arena.

He has held significant management roles at Fireman’s Fund, Home Insurance, Allianz and St. Paul during his 35 year career. He joins Torus from Axis Insurance Company where he was most recently Executive Vice President responsible for both the Excess and Surplus lines and Risk Management Property business in the US.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Dillard University and completed the Executive Development Program at the Wharton School of Business in 2010.

Commenting on the current state of the Commercial Property market, Mr. Dupre said, “The Commercial Property marketplace is experiencing a positive shift in pricing. This movement has been fuelled through industry losses, sub-par returns on investments and full integration of RMS11 modelling system into carriers’ portfolios.”

He added, “While global and domestic losses from 2011 dominated the press and hit all segments of the property portfolios of carriers, it has not deterred carriers in their pursuit of building their Property portfolios. These market characteristics have carriers relooking at their share and positioning on catastrophe exposed accounts with respects to overall accumulations.

“Torus is building a sufficiently diverse, market-focused Property portfolio, meeting the needs of both retail and wholesale brokers and their customers as well as maintaining a well-balanced book of business. We are writing a broad class of risk in both the catastrophe and non-catastrophe marketplace. It is an exciting challenge to lead this development.”

Mark Mikulak

Mr. Mikulak heads Torus’ US Renewable & Select Energy practice, which writes primary lines of general liability, automobile, umbrella  & Inland Marine for commercial businesses involved in the Renewable & Select  Energy sector.

Commenting on this fast-growing market, Mr. Mikulak said, “There are great opportunities to be seen in the Renewable & Select  Energy space as more commercial businesses than ever before are focusing on the expansion and development of energy generated from natural resources.

“Torus has already made an impact in this market and the team continues to work closely with a variety of renewable energy councils, industry groups and intermediaries in order to keep abreast of the constantly changing needs in this sector to best develop custom products and services for our customers.”

Mr. Mikulak joins Torus from Clermont Specialty  Managers, LTD. where he served as Senior Vice President of Underwriting and Business Development. In this role, Mr Mikulak was responsible for managing underwriting, product development, regulatory compliance and leading the expansion of the Clermont Brand within the US. He has over 26 years of diverse Property and Casualty underwriting experience and has held senior positions at Chubb, The Hartford and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.

Commenting on the appointments Mr. Anand said, “We continue to attract top industry talent to Torus. Gerald and Mark are excellent additions to our deep bench of industry specialists and I am delighted they have joined Torus to lead the development of the Americas Property and Renewable & Select Energy lines.”
