Torus Adds Two to Healthcare Practice Dan Durett and Scott Ducey Named Vice Presidents, Healthcare

Torus, the global specialty insurer, has today announced the appointments of two senior executives within the company’s growing US Healthcare practice; Dan Durett and Scott Ducey have each been named Vice President, Healthcare.
Mr. Durett will oversee Torus’ US medical professional liability platform for hospital and program business while Mr. Ducey will focus on healthcare liability business in the western US region. Both are based in Torus’ Jersey City office, NJ and will report directly to Robert Allen, Senior Vice President, Head of Healthcare.
Mr. Allen said, “Dan and Scott bring more than a half century of experience to Torus. Their expertise and industry acumen further strengthens our growing presence within the medical professional liability segment.”
He added, “We’re continuing our trajectory to build a leading specialty healthcare platform that addresses the diverse segments and needs within our industry. Dan and Scott will support our goal of growing a product line that focuses not only on coverage enhancements but also on providing premier risk services.”
Mr. Durett brings over 32 years of underwriting experience. He joins from Munich Re America where he was most recently Vice President of Professional Liability and responsible for the marketing and production of hospital, physician and allied healthcare provider programs, excess insurance and reinsurance. He has also held senior underwriting positions at AIG and USI Re. He holds a J.D. from Rutgers, where he also earned his B.A. He has earned a certificate in Healthcare Risk Management from the University of Florida and is an active member of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS)
Mr. Ducey brings over 20 years of experience in the insurance and healthcare industries. He also joins Torus from Munich Re, where he served as Vice President in the Company’s professional liability area, and was responsible for underwriting both primary insurance programs and reinsurance structures. Prior to Munich Re, Mr. Ducey held positions with Harbor Point Re, Chubb Re and Zurich. Mr. Ducey is a graduate from Rowan University and is an active member of ASHRM, the American Healthcare Association (AHCA) and PLUS.
